I see that UNITE are now trying to internationalise the BA dispute by meeting with the American Teamster union to "discuss" the strike.
My immediate thought is what the hell has this got to do with foreigners?
This brings back memories of the bad old days when unions engaged in all sorts of secondary action and tried to escalate disputes with unconnected workers in the name of union solidarity.
Fortunately, thanks to past Tory governments, laws in this country now prevent this.
However I find it intersting that UNITE are now clearly trying to incite secondary action by foreign workers.
If baggage handlers or other airport workers in the US, who are apparently Teamsters, refuse to handle BA flights then the additonal damage to BA would be massive.
It leaves a really bad taste in my mouth that UNITE are now trying to engage secondary action by foreigners to support their trade dispute.
I wonder how this will play out - is this a sabre rattling exercise from UNITE or a serious threat to BA?
What will Brown, Adonis and co have to say about this unnecessary and unpatriotic escalation by UNITE?
