It's incredible to think that 40 years have passed since Armstrong & Aldrin were the first human beings to set foot on the moon.
I am just old enough to remember the Apollo missions, although it was probably the BBC coverage (with James Burke, Patrick Moore and Raymond Baxter) of the later ones that I can recall.
Apollo missions to the moon ended in 1972 and it does feel like we have been "marking time" in our exploration of space since then although it now looks as if China, India and the USA are again planning lunar visits.
There have been remarkable technological advances in many areas in the last 40 years but I can't help but think we have almost gone backwards in the area of aerospace.
Nothing has improved on the mighty Saturn V rocket that propelled the astronauts to the moon and of course we can no longer fly the Atlantic in less than 3 hours on Concorde.
Here are some amazing images from Apollo 11 - I wonder how long it will be before there are some new pictures of "man on the moon"?
