Now back from France and trying to catch up on all of the news, hundreds of e mails and a stack of mail about 3 feet high, and thats before collecting my council post from the Borough offices!

I guess the price you pay for being away from home for nearly 3 weeks.

Lots to pick up and comment on over the next few days, including:

Question Time (inevitably)
All women shortlists
MP's expenses

However of more pressing importance this morning is I have to go over to Harlow and collect my new car. (Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TDI in case anybody is interested).

Back on line later.

Apologies for lack of recent posts - currently enjoying the sunshine in France.

Back to normal later next week.

Once in a while the verbal chickens come home to roost.

In recent weeks Harriet “don’t you know who I am” Harman has taken every opportunity to attack the “Arrogant Tories”.

Therefore the irony of her alleged comment “I’m Harriet Harman – you know where to find me” after her involvement in a relatively minor traffic incident is just brilliant.

Ms Harman has demonstrated the arrogance of the ruling classes and the utter hypocrisy of wealthy, privileged New Labour types – you know the ones that have enough money to be able to afford their socialist principles.

Ms Harman has a history of motoring offences but I’m pretty confident that nothing much further will come of this – after all if the most senior law officer in the land can keep her job after employing an illegal immigrant then Harriet should have nothing to fear from (allegedly) breaking 2 – 3 traffic laws……………

Well no great surprise that the Irish electorate have voted "YES" in their Lisbon Treaty referendum.

I guess that it was hoping for too much that after their brave (and unexpected) decision 18 months ago that we would see a repeat of the "NO" vote.

All that now stands in the way of this repackaged version of the EU constitution being imposed on us is the Czech Republic and Poland who are, so far, refusing to ratify.

No doubt the full force of the EU will now threaten these 2 countries with all sorts of dire consequences if they try to derail the treaty.

I have no doubt that by the time of the next UK General Election that Poland and the Czech Republic will have ratified and that as a result another great chunk of our sovereignty will have been handed over to the EU.

I don't really think that David Cameron will be too disappointed about this.

Even though the overwhelming majority of Conservatives are, to some degree, "Euro sceptics" I suspect that the last thing Cameron wants is another bout of internal blood letting in the first few months of a future Tory government.

This surely would be inevitable if he had to make good on a promise of a Lisbon Treaty referendum - I am quite convinced that the likes of Ken Clark would actively campaign for Britain to ratify and thus reopen the divisions in the Tory party.

So whilst Cameron is currently able to show his Euro sceptic credentials and talk up a referendum (if the Tories win the election) I bet a pound to a penny he is hoping that the Czechs and Poles have ratified before May next year.

Although I remain to be convinced that Gordon will actually do this, I don't really see that he has much choice in saying he is willing to take part.

It really wouldn't look too good if Cameron, Clegg and an empty space marked "Prime Minister" were on TV would it?

Memories of Roy Hattersley and the "Tub of Lard" episode of HIGNFY come to mind..................
