A quick reminder that the Broxbourne Blue Ball is now only 6 weeks away.

I understand that there is still some limited availability - please contact Councillor Jason Brimson (j.brimson@hotmail.com) for more details.

Good to see that Mr Crow has been awarded a 12% pay rise - well worth every penny of his £145k salary & expenses package!

I wonder if he will be picked up on this the next time he appears on the BBC talking about "fat cats" in other businesses - no I don't think so either..................

I don't often look at The Guardian website but this story cheered me up this morning.

I suspect that few people realise that the European Beaver is a species indigenous to our islands but was hunted to extinction by the 16th century.

I think there is value in the selective reintroduction of species that once thrived in our country (probably not bears, wolves etc though!) and hope that this project in the Kintyre peninsular continues to thrive.

A couple of weeks ago I sat in on the regular meeting of the Councils Environmental Panel.

This is a public meeting, that anybody is welcome to attend, that allows Borough residents to be briefed on environmental issues by Council officers and, more importantly, for residents to give feedback to the Council on what they think.

I've been going along to these meetings for the last few years and generally find them a valuable use of a couple of hours of my life.

What interested me this time was the really positive reaction of the panel to Council plans to use a private firm (XFOR) to issue fixed penalty notices to people who litter our streets.

I do hope that the people at the meeting were representative of the majority of local people.

I am sure that most of us detest seeing litter in our streets and don't have much time for those individuals who seem to think it is socially acceptable to drop their waste anywhere they choose.

I wonder what stance the local press will take when the first fines are issued?

The next meeting of the Environmental Panel is on 30th November.
