I am currently experimenting with a new template style on the website.

This is a change that has been forced on me.

For some reason the old template style "fell over" last night on the Do Your Own Site server and I haven't been able to resurrect it!

Still, it probably was overdue a change in appearance anyway.

Not sure if I will stick with this black & white style but it is certainly different to the old blue one!

Catherine Ashton (or should I say Baroness Ashton of Upholland) has just been anointed as the European Unions "High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy"

This lady is a New Labour Peer who has never stood for elected office in her life.

Now, thanks to the byzantine world of European politics she holds one of the most powerful roles in the European Union.

Doesn't this sum up just about everything that is wrong with the European project?

Unelected party political apparatchiks are appointed to posts that none of us in the UK have approved.

Still, at least Tony B Liar didn't become president..........

James Burdett commented on the wonderful Gilbert & Sullivan just the other day.

I wonder what the mercurial W S Gilbert would have made of the absurdity of the European Union and the bizarre titles created for these unelected Eurocrats?

In "The Mikado" Gilbert parodies the politicians of his time with the character of Pooh-Bah (The Lord High Everything Else).

124 years on the EU seems to be using Gilbert's world as inspiration for the naming of their posts - Catherine Ashton is now the EU's Lord High Everything Else...................

A plague on them all!!

Just announced on Radio 5 live.

The CPS has announced that Harriet Harman is to be prosecuted for (1) driving without due care & attention (2) using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving.

Good - it's nice to see thst the law is prepared to take on the "great and good"

Saw this on UK Polling report this evening - the headline figure of 70% in favour of the death penalty is interesting.

I wonder what the British people would like a referendum on first - The Lisdon Treaty or reintroduction of capital punishment?

I rather suspect the latter - no chance of ever getting though!

I am appalled by this story that I first saw in last nights Evening Standard.

I am amazed that a prospective candidate for public office and a former Labour Party election agent would use such unnecessarily offensive language in the public domain.

I don’t have a problem with anybody holding republican views; indeed I personally have some doubts about the relevance of the monarchy in the 21st century.

I can foresee there being quite a debate about this institutions future when the current Queen passes away.

I do however have a problem with gross discourtesy towards a lady who has served our country with great distinction for many years.

Peter Whites outburst will embarress the Labour Party and will almost certainly see him removed from their list of candidates for the London Borough of Havering elections.

Given the strength of the BNP in that part of the world I am just staggered that a Labour Party activist would be so careless / insensitive / dumb to run the risk of alienating part of his traditional core vote by insulting The Queen.

Labour politicians have a history of using the word “vermin” carelessly.

Nye Bevan once famously called his Tory opponents “lower than vermin” in a speech, prompting the creation of the famous Vermin Club that numbered Margaret Thatcher in it’s ranks.

Peter White isn’t quite in the same league as Nye Bevan but I am sure that his party will count the cost of his outburst at the ballot box in South Hornchurch.
