There's lots on Radio 5 Live this morning about the imminent release of the A level results.
This has to be one the most stressful days that many A level students will have faced and hopefully for most of them a very successful & rewarding day.
Back in '84 my A level results day was miserable - I fell a grade short of my offer from Hull University and accordingly had to go through the trauma of "clearing" - a fairly unedifying scramble to find a suitable course.
At the time this all felt like a disaster - having invested so much time and effort (although clearly not enough effort!) into my courses my failure to get to Hull felt like the end of the world.
It wasn't of course - I ended up at Middlesex doing exactly the course I wanted.
The consequence of this was that the future direction of my life was, effectively, defined by my A level results - after all 26 years later I am still living and working just a few miles from Middlesex University.
Anyway, good luck to everybody with their results today and don't despair if things don't quite go to plan.
