I don't know what to make of Alastair Campbell's appearance on Andrew Marr's TV show this morning.
The uncharitable, or perhaps cynical, part of me thinks that it is part of a ploy by New Labour types to appear more human to the electorate.
It is widely reported that Gordon & Sarah Brown will be seen weeping on Piers Morgan's "Life Stories" TV show next weekend.
However I am more inclined to think that Campbell is really starting to feel the pressure over the lies he and his master told the nation over Iraq and that Marr's questions touched on a really raw nerve.
My favourite line was Campbell saying "people are not interested in the truth anymore".
From a master of political spin (i.e a professional liar) this was a jaw droppingly hypocritical comment - I don't believe that Campbell would know the truth if it stood up & hit him repeatedly around the head.
Campbell has been a malign influence on British political and public life for the last 15 years - he has helped to politicise the civil service, intimidated the press, fed lies to his political masters, helped to mislead parliament and above all else was instrumental in taking this country to war on a false premise.
Just looking at the title of this post, I may have it wrong - perhaps it should read "Is Campbell More Cracked?".
